Discovery Play Days offer hands-on learning and outdoor fun! Young children (3 – 10 year-olds) and their parents join trail naturalists and library staff for stories, educational activities and a short nature walk. This free program is specially designed for young families. Wildlife, wetlands, or beach combing is covered at each of the three summer sessions.

Each session begins at 10:00 a.m. with storytime and a craft project at the Clear Creek Interpretive Center, 9641 Levin Road in Silverdale. It’s followed by a short guided trail walk at 11:00 a.m. to explore the wetlands, the beach or track for wildlife signs. The program ends around noon and families are invited to bring a sack lunch to enjoy at the picnic tables outside or inside should the weather be too wet. Dress for the weather and hiking.

Tuesday, June 26th - Birds & Wildlife Sleuthing

Join us for a peek at who’s chirping in the trees or foraging for lunch along the creek. Shoot us an email so we have plenty of volunteers and craft supplies. volunteer@clearcreektrail.com

Tuesday, July 17th - Bugs and Wetlands

Find out what bugs are preferred by salmon and indicate the health of a stream. Investigate a wetland to see how plants and bugs are adapted to this wet decaying environment. Stories, crafts and a short hike! What could be better on a sunny morning?

Thursday, August 9th - Beach Coming at Low Tide

Learn about the marine critters that you can see at low tide. Story time begins at 10:00 a.m. and then it’s craft time! Trace a sea animal, stencil, color, paint and sprinkle with sand and pebbles. Next, you’ll comb the beach at the Clear Creek Estuary to find out what lives there and how they fit into the web of life.
